Chris has been working in the pre-press, magazine/publishing, and
graphic arts industries for almost 20 years. Chris became one
of the first to configure and utilize digital pre-press solutions
for high-end separations and color print production in 1987,
and played a pivotal role in the acceptance of these new technologies
in the print community. As these technologies became more ubiquitous
in the 90’s, Chris began to focus on Internet, and Network-based
publishing and technology. In 1994, Chris left his long-standing
position of Digital PrePress Manager at Capitol Engraving to begin
his independent consulting business. It was in 1995 that Chris
set up www servers at his facility to begin to focus on publishing
via the Internet.
Chris adopted the Adobe PDF file format
in it’s early stages (1992–3), and became what many
consider to be one of the best PDF consultants in the industry.
In the following years, Chris became the Chairman of the PDF conference
at Seybold (The world’s
largest publishing technologies conference, held two times a year),
and a committee member of numerous industry standards organizations
such as SWOP, CGATS, and Gracol. In addition, Chris is involved
with numerous industry trade-shows and conferences, including the
IPA (International Pre-Media Association), NAPL, SAGUA, and more.
In addition, Chris is actively involved with product development
from Adobe, Griffin Technologies, Enfocus, and others, in a User-Interface
Guidelines, and functionality role.
With clients world-wide, including Asia,
Australia, Europe, the West Indies, and most of North America, Chris is well-known
in the printing and publishing industry. Chris also sits on numerous industry
advisory boards and corporate “Technical Committees” for the Software
Authoring community. (Including Adobe, Enfocus Belgium, Xinet, and others.)
Chris also authors monthly columns regarding
publishing technique and technology (often historical) for Australian Printer
Magazine, and in the past, Electronic Publishing Magazine and
maintains numerous www sites regarding electronic publishing technology.
Chris
is a technical person, who maintains both his network, and his
client’s
networks. His skills in networking, telecommunications, print production
and publishing technologies have become more complete as he has had
these services in his facility for the past 10 years. Chris’ experience
is varied in Hardware and Software solutions, consisting in Solaris,
AIX Unix, Irix, Macintosh, Windows, Linux, and more.
